President Said Deni of Puntland State has announced that he will be making a historic visit to Mogadishu soon. His office said the trip should help find solutions for the political quandary pitting the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) against Federal Member States (FMS).
President Deni pledged to work on finding solutions with President Mohamed Farmaajo’s government when they meet in Mogadishu. FGS has been in loggerheads with FMS. The strained relations between them have made it harder to build a functional united Somalia.
Puntland’s president made this announcement on Thursday in Garowe. While making the announcement, he stated that he would not limit his trip to Mogadishu alone. Instead, he promised to visit other federal states too.
His announcement came on the back of a three-day consultative meeting in Garowe. Several top officials attended the meeting. Puntland’s representatives to the FGS, former leaders, and regional leaders were all at the consultative forum.
