The regional state of Puntland has vowed to operate and exist as an independent state until Somalia gets a new constitution.
Puntland issued a statement dated January 9 on this issue.
In the statement, the regional state vowed to run an “autonomous government” until the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) drafts a new constitution.
Currently, Somalia has a Provisional Constitution.
Puntland added that it would wait for the country to hold a referendum on the new constitution too.
It promised to continue cooperating with other Federal Member States (FMS).
