Senior Al-Shabaab Leader Killed in Central Somalia

Mogadishu – Somalia’s Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi announced that Nur Abdi Rooble, a senior leader of the Al-Shabaab militant group, died on Sunday at 1pm local time from injuries sustained during a recent aerial strike.

According to the minister, the operation was carried out by the Somali National Army (SNA) in collaboration with international security partners in the Hiiraan region.

Rooble succumbed to his wounds on the outskirts of El-Bur town in central Somalia.

Rooble, who joined Al-Shabaab in 2009, was a key figure in orchestrating numerous deadly attacks against Somali forces and civilians, particularly in Galmudug and HirShabelle states.

His death marks a significant blow to the group’s command structure.

Fiqi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying counterterrorism operations across the country to eliminate Al-Shabaab’s remaining leadership.
