The ongoing National Consultation Council (NCC) summit in Somalia is concluding with an anticipated communiqué covering various critical issues, including a model for the upcoming elections.
However, the absence of two major federal member states, Jubaland and Puntland, raises concerns about the forum’s effectiveness and the likelihood of implementing its decisions.
Federal lawmaker Sadiq Abdi Ali voiced these concerns, cautioning that excluding key states from the decision-making process could lead to political instability.
He warned that this exclusion may lead to resistance against the NCC’s recommendations, potentially fostering mistrust and, in the worst case, resulting in efforts to extend terms illegitimately, which could further destabilize the political landscape.
