MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, held a telephone conversation with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, on Wednesday to discuss regional developments and means of strengthening bilateral ties.
The two officials exchanged perspectives on the evolving regional landscape and ongoing stability efforts, while reviewing the current state of cooperation between Somalia and Jordan. They emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in critical sectors, including counterterrorism, economic growth, and investment. The phone call reflects both governments’ continued commitment to deepening their diplomatic and security partnership.
Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing Somalia-Jordan relations, noting the need for sustained dialogue and closer coordination to advance practical cooperation in priority areas and address common challenges affecting regional stability and economic progress.
A Steadfast Partnership
The conversation builds upon a series of engagements that have underscored the strength of Somalia-Jordan relations. In early March, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a high-level telephone conversation with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan to address the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East. During that call, President Mohamud reaffirmed Somalia’s unwavering solidarity with Jordan and expressed strong support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
High-level security cooperation has also featured prominently. In July 2025, Somalia’s Chief of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Brigadier General Mukhudin Ahmed Mohamed, participated in a regional security conference in Jordan, focusing on irregular migration and transnational organized crime. The conference brought together senior law enforcement officials from across the Middle East and Africa to enhance intelligence sharing and operational coordination.
Socio-economic and cultural cooperation has similarly progressed. In July 2025, Somalia’s Minister of Youth and Sports attended the launch of the Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace, and Security in Amman, where he held bilateral talks with his Jordanian counterpart to strengthen collaboration on youth empowerment, sports development, and cultural exchange.
Jordan has been a consistent voice in support of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, particularly regarding the issue of Somaliland. Jordan has repeatedly rejected any attempts to create parallel entities that could threaten Somalia’s unity, and has condemned any unilateral recognition of breakaway regions as a violation of international law and Somalia’s sovereignty.
