Somalia’s Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan (HNRP) needs $1.6 billion to assist millions of people in the country this year.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said this in its latest report published on January 30.
OCHA stated that the funds would enable authorities, including humanitarian organizations, to assist 5.2 million Somalis.
According to OCHA and other organizations, Somalia has over 6.9 million people who require urgent lifesaving humanitarian and protection assistance this year.
The funds are 40 percent less than what the East African nation needed last year. Last year, over 8.25 million people in Somalia needed assistance.
