Somalia’s New PM Meets Federal MPs Ahead of Parliamentary Approval

Mohamed Hussein Roble, the newly appointed Prime Minister of Somalia met with the leadership of the Federal Parliament on Sunday.

His meeting with the Members of Parliament (MPs) comes ahead of the impending approval of his appointment by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo on Thursday, September 17.

Somalia’s constitution requires the House of Representatives (commonly referred to as the Lower House) to vet any newly appointed Prime Minister.

It is not clear what Roble and the MPs discussed during their meeting.

Nevertheless, his approval by parliament is expected to be a straightforward matter since the Lower House is firmly loyal to Farmaajo.

Roble, who is originally from Galmudug state, replaces Hassan Ali Khaire who was kicked out of office by the Lower House in a no confidence motion in late July.
