Somalia’s well-trained forces are ready to take over the responsibility of securing the country from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur offered this reassurance on Tuesday.
Nur, the Minister of Defense, spoke in the wake of the revelation that ATMIS troops would be handing over the responsibility of securing Villa Somalia and parliament to Somali forces.
Over the weekend, the National Security Advisor confirmed that SNA and other security agencies would assume such tasks from ATMIS.
ATMIS will reduce its troops in Somalia by a further 3,000 by December 31, 2023.
Nur assured the public and international community that local troops are well-trained to provide the protection required around the nation.
