Somaliland has announced that it has fully funded the upcoming elections scheduled for November 13, 2024.
This move signifies a significant step towards political stability in the self-declared republic.
Suleiman Jama Diriye, the Deputy Minister of Finance, said that the government has funded the elections fully to the tune of $10 million.
He added that the government financed the polls fully revenue raised through domestic funding.
Diriye denied reports that the government received funding from foreign sources to finance the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for November 13 this year.
Somaliland’s government has allocated resources to ensure the elections are carried out independently without external financial assistance, showcasing its commitment to democratic processes.
The elections are expected to be closely watched as they will decide members of both the House of Representatives and the local councils.
This will be a crucial test for Somaliland’s electoral institutions and a significant event in its ongoing pursuit of international recognition.
