The South African government has refuted reports that poisonous bananas were imported into the country from Somalia.
A statement from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development indicates that no such importation took place through any South African port of entry.
The government spoke as it emerged that South Africa has a huge presence of the kinds of bananas found in Somalia.
There are fears that this type of banana is harmful to human health.
However, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that it monitors the importation of any kind of plant and plant products closely.
