Commander Yusuf Moalim Madey of the Southwest State’s special police forces in Berdale town has succumbed to injuries following a roadside blast.
Madey died a few hours after being rushed to hospital to receive treatment for injuries he sustained in the explosion.
The explosion occurred earlier on Sunday in the Baay region, as confirmed by security sources.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Militant groups such as Al-Shabaab frequently use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target security personnel and civilians.
It is feared that Al-Shabaab might be behind the attack in the Southwest region that caused the death of the special police forces commander.
