1 Out of 7 Somali Children Die before 5 Years, Says OCHA

One out of every seven children in Somalia die before they reach 5 years.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said this in its latest report.

OCHA added that Somalia has the sixth highest risk of maternal deaths in the world.

Furthermore, Somalia has some of the lowest health indicators in the world, as per the latest report by the humanitarian organization.

In the report, OCHA mentioned that several diseases have worsened the situation.

The diseases in question include measles and cholera.

More children might die as a result of a health system that is understaffed, under-resourced, and ill-equipped.

Despite these challenges, the health cluster has received only 9 percent of the required funding.

Additionally, no more than 2 million people have also received lifesaving assistance between January and April 2023.
