Sharif Ahmed Kicks off Campaign for Presidential Elections in Baidoa

Ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed is to kick off his campaign for the presidential elections in Baidoa on November 26.

Ahmed, who served as the President of Somalia between 2009 and 2012, has declared his candidature for next year’s presidential elections.

Today’s trip to Baidoa, which is the capital of the semiautonomous Southwest State, is the start of a campaign that would see Ahmed traversing most of the country.

Security has been heightened around the city in preparation for his arrival.

Ahmed is one of the leaders of the Forum for National Parties (FNP), a coalition of opposition parties seeking to vie in next year’s elections and unseat President Mohamed Farmaajo.
