ATMIS Says Lockdown at Halane Base Camp is to Secure MPs’ Swearing-in Ceremony

The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) has said that its decision to put Halane Base Camp on lockdown is to secure the upcoming swearing-in ceremony.

Newly-elected legislators from the House of the People (Lower House) and Senate (Upper House) are set for the swearing-in ceremony on April 14.

In a press release dated April 8, ATMIS had informed the public of the decision to lock down the facility from April 10-16.

However, that decision and announcement have not gone down well around the country.

Consequently, ATMIS has been forced to issue a follow-up press release on the issue.

In its latest press statement, which is dated April 10, ATMIS clarified that it has to lock down the Base Camp to boost security ahead of this week’s swearing-in ceremony in Mogadishu.
