In Mogadishu on Wednesday, the SRCC and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador Souef Mohamed El-Amine, met with World Food Programme (WFP) Regional Director Laurent Bukera to deliberate on Somalia’s intertwined security and humanitarian challenges.
The discussions centered on the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the AU Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), highlighting the latter’s pivotal role in supporting the United Nations’ mandate in Somalia.
They discussed ways of exploring opportunities for collaboration between AUSSOM and the WFP to ensure effective support for Somalia’s most vulnerable populations.
Furthermore, they will be strengthening joint efforts to address the critical issues of food insecurity and displacement exacerbated by conflict and climate crises.
This engagement underscores the importance of aligning security operations with humanitarian objectives to build resilience and stability across Somalia.
