Beledweyne has received its new mayor. Nadar Tabah, a Somali woman, becomes Beledweyne’s new mayor effective immediately.
On Thursday, she moved into her office and took over the reins from the immediate former Mayor Safiya Hassan Sheikh Ali Jamale.
In 2019, Safiya became the first female Mayor of Beledweyne.
In the process, she also became the first female Mayor to be elected anywhere in the Horn of African nation.
Safiya had taken over from the Mohamed Hassan Nuriye who had served as the Mayor of Beledweyne from 2012 to 2019.
Last week, Tabah replaced her and moved into office to begin her reign as the new Mayor of HirShabelle’s town.
Tabah attended the handing over ceremony in the company of Governor Ali Jeyte Osman of Hiiraan and other regional dignitaries.
