Benadir Regional Court, which is handling the case the Attorney General has filed against a Somali journalist, has asked the government for more details of the plaintiff.
The court asked the Attorney General’s office to furnish it with details of the plaintiff who has filed charges against Abdiaziz Gurbiye, an Editor with Goobjoog Media Group (GMG).
Gurbiye was summoned to appear in court today to answer charges, which the Attorney General amended yesterday.
However, details of his accuser remain hidden.
Consequently, the court is of the opinion that the journalist must receive these details to help him prepare his defense properly.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ) has condemned the latest move saying that it is nothing but continued harassment and persecution of journalists by the government.
FESOJ tweeted its displeasure at the government’s decision to use outdated penal codes to harass and intimidate journalists from doing their work.
