Clashes have been reported in Baidoa between security forces and opposition militia.
Reports appearing in the media indicate that the two sides clashed in the administrative capital of the regional state of Southwest on Friday.
No casualty has been reported thus far.
Sources added that the clashes were the product of the recent decision to extend Southwest President Abdiaziz Laftagareen’s term by a further year.
The extension means that his term now expires officially on December 19, 2023.
Opposition parties have opposed that term extension.
Their opposition has led to clashes, fear, and tension in the region thus culminating in the chaos witnessed in Baidoa earlier today.
