The coach of the Somalia U17 side has expressed pride at the performance his boys put up in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U17 tournament.
Somalia was knocked out on Friday after losing 3-0 to Senegal who emerged victorious in Group A.
Coach Nur Mohamed Amin said that the boys did well despite exiting at the group stage.
A week ago, Somalia kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 loss to the hosts Algeria. They then followed this up with a 1-1 draw with Congo before losing their last group match to Senegal.
Somalia were playing in a continental tourney for the first time in the country’s history.
“There were 12 teams in the tournament, and we were one of those,” the coach said.
“We did well when you consider that the team is from a background of war and instability. We also are from a nation with poor football infrastructure,” the coach added.
