Crisis Group Publishes Report on Upcoming Elections in Somalia

The world-renowned Crisis Group has published its report on the upcoming elections in Somalia.

In the report, Crisis Group said that the elections are crucial for the wellbeing of the people of Somalia.

It mentions the agreement signed in Mogadishu in mid-September between Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States.

The agreement stated that the country would hold presidential elections in February 2021.

However, both sides agreed to hold local council and parliamentary elections in December 2020 first.

In the meantime, the Crisis Group mentioned the constant clashes between the government and the regional leaders.

Its report states that the country could fall apart if the constant bickering between the two sides is not resolved fast.

Crisis Group also highlighted the timelines listed in the agreement, which are yet to be met.

The organization mentions the preparatory work that remains undone in its report. It also reminds all stakeholders that time is running out.

Crisis Group also spoke of the “fraught political atmosphere” that is capable of complicating everything and reducing all gains made.
