Ethiopian and Emirates Planes Almost Collided in Somalia, Says Somaliland’s CAAA

Planes belonging to Ethiopian Airlines and Emirates Airlines almost collided while flying in Somalia airspace.

According to the Somaliland Civil Aviation and Airport Authority (CAAA), the two planes were almost involved in a fatal collision on March 24.

It identified the planes in question as ETH690 and UAE722 of Ethiopia and Emirates respectively.

The Somaliland CAAA blamed authorities in Somalia for assigning both flights the same altitude of 37,000ft.

Quick intervention by air traffic controllers in Somaliland and the Ethiopian Airlines pilot averted the near miss after the plane climbed to an altitude of 39,000ft.

Somaliland hit out at the “stubbornness and incompetence” of their Mogadishu counterparts.
