Ex-NISA Chief Abandons Farmaajo

Fahad Yasin, a former Somali intelligence chief and a key political figure, has reportedly cut ties with former President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, known as Farmaajo, ending their decade-long political alliance.

Yasin is a former Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).

He served as the NISA chief under Farmaajo before stepping down when the current President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud assumed office two years ago.

This move marks a significant shift in Somalia’s political landscape, given Yasin’s influential role in Farmaajo’s administration and their shared political strategies over the years.

Yasin announced his departure from Farmaajo’s inner circle on Sunday.

The end of this alliance could have various implications for Somalia’s political dynamics, especially in the context of upcoming elections and the balance of power among different political factions.

Yasin’s departure from Farmaajo’s camp might signal a realignment of political forces in the country and could impact the support base that Farmaajo has relied on for decades.
