Ex-President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed visited HirShabelle for the second time in less than a week for a series of meetings with political leaders.
The plane carrying ex-President Ahmed landed at Jowhar airport from Mogadishu on Wednesday, November 4.
His arrival is interesting because HirShabelle is scheduled to hold regional presidential elections today.
Additionally, the semiautonomous region’s regional assembly is also picking its new speaker today.
His visit comes at a time when former HirShabelle President Mohamed Abdi Waare resigned from office on Monday, November 2 ahead of today’s elections.
While bowing out, Waare accused Mogadishu of betrayal and lack of support.
Consequently, there seems to be bad blood between HirShabelle’s federal Member of Parliaments (MPs) and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
