FAO Warns Drought Threatens 12 Million People in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has issued a warning over the drought that threatens over 12 million people in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

According to FAO, around 2 million of the affected people are in Kenya.

FAO issued the warning on October 18 through its Early Warning Systems.

Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta has already declared the drought a national disaster.

In Somalia, the southern parts of the country seem to be the worst-affected thus forcing the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) to institute mitigating measures.

Sergio Innocente, Regional Expert at FAO’s Early Warning Systems, says that temperatures have been rising at incredible levels in the three East African countries.

Consequently, the need for humanitarian assistance in the region has never been higher.
