Reports from Villa Somalia indicate that President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is expected to name the country’s new Prime Minister in the next few hours.
Last month, the House of Representatives passed a vote of no confidence against the immediate former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
Soon thereafter, President Farmaajo appointed Mahdi M. Gulaid the new Prime Minister but on an acting capacity.
Prior to his appointment, Gulaid had been Prime Minister Khaire’s deputy.
Insiders have not clarified the name of the person expected to occupy the second most powerful political office in Somalia, though.
Whoever is appointed the new Prime Minister will guide the country through preparations for the upcoming polls in November 2020 and February 2021.
