Fifty Baidoa Journalists Trained to Report SGBV Cases

Fifty journalists and reporters in Baidoa were trained on how to report sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) cases professionally.

The training took place in Baidoa, the capital of Southwest State on October 15.

Officials from the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) attended the workshop and took part in training the journalists.

Media owners and practitioners in the region were educated on the importance of professional coverage of SGBV incidences.

Further, the training sought to open the eyes and ears of journalists to the critical role their reportage of such cases could turn the tide and ensure that victims know their rights.

Somalia is one of the world’s most notorious places where SGBV is concerned.

Lawmakers have taken a long time to enact the appropriate laws and bills that criminalize and punish perpetrators effectively.

The journalists who attended the workshop were from different media organizations and outlets in the region.
