The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) warned fishing companies over trawling activities undertaken within its territorial waters.
The government issued the warning over the weekend through the Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.
According to the ministry, the warning also touches on vessel owners.
The ministry informed them of the importance of adhering to Article 31 of the Somali Federal Fishery Law.
Article 31 strictly prohibits trawling activities in Somalia’s waters.
The ministry warned that it could imprison, fine, or confiscate the equipment of anyone caught carrying out trawling activities, as per the law.
