Former Health Minister Urges Somalis to Observe COVID-19 Measures

A former Minister of Health in the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has urged the public to observe measures designed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Dr. Maryan Qasim, a highly respected public figure, reminded Somalis to heed the warning by the ministry of a second wave of the deadly disease in the country.

She confirmed that there is no doubt the country is in the midst of resurgence of COVID-19.

The number of confirmed cases has shot upwards considerably.

Tens of patients diagnosed with the virulent disease are now dying every day.

Dr. Qasim urged her fellow citizens to “adhere to the basic public health measures” prescribed by the ministry and the World Health Organization (WHO).

She asked Somalis to wear facemasks, wash their hands regularly with soap and water, and observe social distance.
