Hassan Ali Khaire, the immediate former Prime Minister of Somalia, has blasted the presence of security officers in the newly appointed Federal Electoral Commissions (FECs).
On Tuesday, November 10, Khaire released a press statement stating his support for the recent communiqué by presidential candidates.
The aspirants had issued a statement titled “The Position and Decision of Somalia Presidential Candidates to Participate in the 2020/2021 Elections.”
In their statement, the candidates had expressed concern over the manner in which the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) handled the elections.
Specifically, Khaire blasted the inclusion of the names of intelligence agents, police officers, and civil servants in the electoral bodies.
He mentioned that the security agents should only focus on their well-defined national duties.
Khaire asked members of the intelligence community to participate in activities that earn them more trust, respect, and dignity from the public.
