Former Prime Minister Meets with Speaker of the Upper House in Mogadishu

Hassan Ali Khaire, Somalia’s immediate former Prime Minister, met with Speaker Abdi Hashi of the Senate (Upper House) in Mogadishu on Sunday.

The two held a closed-door meeting that took place two days after the country’s leadership signed an agreement on the upcoming elections.

Sources intimate that the two leaders discussed multiple issues that included the ongoing political transition in the country.

Khaire’s meeting with Speaker Hashi occurs a few days after he declared intentions to vie in the presidential polls, which are scheduled for March 2021.

The former Prime Minister was removed from office after the House of Representatives (Lower House) voted to pass a motion of no confidence against him.

When he was removed from office, Khaire had pushed for timely elections. At the time, Speaker Hashi supported his call for carrying out elections on schedule.
