The importation of Bajaj motorcycles and auto-rickshaws has been banned in Somalia.
An announcement from the Federal Government of Somalia indicates that the government would no longer allow these types of vehicles to be imported into the country.
The ban takes effect on Saturday, April 1.
A cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre resolved to effect the ban to reduce accidents and crimes committed by and against drivers of such vehicles.
Further, the government agreed to count all motorcycles in the country by April.
Benadir Regional Administration (BRA) would label all Bajaj auto-rickshaws in the region with special stickers – A or B.
