Interior Affairs Ministry Thanks Parliament for Passing National ID and Registration Act

The Ministry of Interior Affairs has expressed gratitude to the Senate for passing the National ID and Registration Act.

Ahmed Fiqi, the Minister of Interior Affairs, welcomed the decision by the Upper House to pass the Act.

He called the parliamentary approval momentous for the East African nation.

Henceforth, Somalis who have been unable to register for decades and obtain IDs would be able to do so.

He added that the Act now enables Somali citizens to legally register their identities.

Fiqi stated that Somali citizens who register courtesy of the Act’s provisions would have an easier time accessing government and private services.
