Jubbaland to Hold Senatorial Elections on July 29

Jubbaland is in the final leg of preparing for senatorial elections. Reports from the region indicate that the region is to elect its new senators on July 29.

The region would be the first in the country to embark on elections, which have already been postponed on two previous occasions.

On Tuesday, Jubbaland’s President Ahmed Madobe issued the long-awaited list of candidates vying for the senatorial seats.

Immediately thereafter, his administration announced that the region would hold the elections on Thursday.

Initially, the elections were scheduled for Saturday but a rescheduling was unavoidable after a few issues emerged.

After the elections, Jubbaland would have a chance to send eight senators to the Senate, or Upper House.

On Thursday, the region will elect four senators.

The remaining four slots would be filled after the other candidates go through proper vetting to determine their eligibility for the polls.

Nine people, including a female candidate, will be vying on Thursday.
