Jubbaland’s Fresh Demands for Attending Elections Talks in Mogadishu

Jubbaland regional state has issued a set of new demands that the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) must meet first before it attends the latest round of elections talks.

Elections talks kicked off in Mogadishu on February 21.

Notably, Jubbaland and Puntland were excluded or missing from the Sunday talks that took place at Villa Somalia.

Jubbaland later issued a statement saying that it would only attend the talks once FGS apologizes for the violent disruption of last week’s demonstrations by the opposition.

On Friday last week, FGS sent its troops to Mogadishu to disperse opposition supporters who planned to hold an anti-government rally at the Daljirka Dahson Monument.

Several people were reportedly injured or killed in the skirmishes.
