Less than 10 percent of the funds needed for humanitarian assistance in Somalia have been received this year.
A report published by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on Wednesday revealed this piece of disturbing news.
OCHA says that stakeholders have only released 8.2 percent for humanitarian aid.
The East African nation requires $1.6 billion.
OCHA launched an appeal for the funds earlier this year. In three months, the world has only raised 8.2 percent of the funds for over 5.2 million Somalis in the country.
According to OCHA, the funding is critical for assisting children and mothers.
The elderly and all vulnerable in the country need humanitarian assistance too.
