Ministers and MPs Support Fiqi Amid Reports of No-Confidence Motion in Parliament

Federal lawmakers Mursal M. Khaliif and Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu have publicly thrown their weight behind Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Fiqi.

The minister is reportedly in the middle of plans by some lawmakers to pass a motion of no-confidence against him.

Responding to these reports, Khaliif and Moalimuu said that Fiqi has their full support.

They vowed to rally other legislators to defeat the proposed motion by their colleagues in the House of the People during a session on Saturday in Mogadishu.

Meanwhile, the State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Omar, condemned those behind the motion.

He called the motion “unfortunate” while expressing strong disapproval against it.

Their backing underscores a division among lawmakers regarding the minister’s performance and leadership.
