Opposition Presidential Candidates to Meet in Mogadishu over Elections

Several presidential candidates from Somalia’s opposition parties are to meet in Mogadishu from November 15 to discuss the role of the government on the upcoming elections.

The opposition candidates have accused the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) under President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo of “elections interference.”

All the candidates, including former Presidents of Somalia and the immediate former Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Khaire, are expected to hold their first joint meeting on Sunday.

They are also likely to discuss the appointment of cronies and intelligence officers by Prime Minister Mohammed Hussein Roble.

Ex-Presidents Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Sharif Sheikh Ahmed are also expected at the Mogadishu meeting.
