Planning Ministry Launches Somalia COVID-19 Socio-Economic Impact Assessment

The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development launched Somalia’s COVID-19 Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SEIA) on April 1.

Gamal M. Hassan, the planning minister, presided over the launching ceremony on Thursday.

The assessment seeks to study the “multifaceted impact” of the pandemic across the country.

Gamal said that the report paints a grim picture for the East African nation in 2020.

Nevertheless, he remains hopeful over the ability of the nation to make a “socio-economic comeback” in 2021.

He expressed gratitude to government institutions as well as international partners, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for supporting SEIA.
