Mogadishu, Somalia – On Tuesday, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre held a constructive meeting with Mr. Adebayo Kareem, the Acting Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). The high-level talks focused on enhancing security cooperation and advancing stabilisation initiatives across Somalia.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre reaffirmed Somalia’s unwavering commitment to working in close collaboration with the African Union to promote peace and stability, and to intensify efforts in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
Both leaders underscored the importance of unified strategies and coordinated actions in transitioning from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the newly established AUSSOM mission, which is set to play a pivotal role in Somalia’s path toward sustainable peace and self-reliant security structures.
Kareem praised Somalia’s progress in reclaiming and securing territory from terrorist groups and expressed the AU’s continued support for Somali-led security and governance efforts.
The meeting marks a continued deepening of relations between the Somali government and the African Union as both sides look to cement gains made in security and governance reforms.
