Authorities in Somaliland have released one of the candidates in next year’s Somalia presidential elections.
Mustafa Sheikh Ali Duhulow, a Somali presidential candidate, traveled to Hargeisa last weekend.
However, authorities detained him at the airport waiting to deport him back to Mogadishu.
Somaliland authorities are notorious for detaining individuals arriving in their territory from Somalia, especially those suspected of being loyal to the Federal Government of Somalia.
Duhulow was arrested at Hargeisa’s Egal International Airport on Sunday, November 29.
On November 30, he was deported to Mogadishu where he is now free to resume his presidential campaigns.
Several sources claim that Duhulow had traveled to Hargeisa for a meeting with a German organization that invited him to the region.
Somaliland authorities are yet to offer any official comment or communication on Duhulow’s arrest and subsequent deportation.
