Presidential Candidate Says Elections Only Way of Removing Farmaajo from Office

An opposition presidential candidate has said that elections remain the only legal way of removing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo from office.

Hussein Aydid said this during a media interview on December 28.

His comments come in the wake of the rising political tension in the country due to Farmaajo’s attempt to suspend Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Several stakeholders within Somalia and top Somalis in the diaspora have called upon Farmaajo to step down.

Sections of the military were also seen on Mogadishu streets vowing to forcibly eject Farmaajo.

Aydid believes that the country should only get rid of Farmaajo constitutionally.

“Farmaajo came into office after winning a presidential election,” Aydid said.

He added, “Farmaajo will and should only leave office once a new president comes in.”

Aydid finished off by stating that violence would not make President Farmaajo leave Villa Somalia, the presidential complex.
