Puntland is contemplating creating three local councils.
On January 13, President Said Abdullahi Deni of Puntland held a meeting with officials from the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC) on this issue.
The TPEC officials paid him a courtesy call.
During Thursday’s meeting, President Deni and the TPEC officials agreed that the local councils of Eyl, Ufeyn, and Qardho must be up and running.
Eyl, Ufeyn, and Qardho were universally praised for holding one-person-one-vote (1P1V) elections towards the end of last year.
