Elections in Puntland will proceed on schedule despite the recent resignation of senior officials of the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC).
Guled Salah stepped down on January 2 from his position as the TPEC Chairperson.
A day later, Jama Hirsi Farah also resigned as TPEC’s Deputy Chairperson.
However, Abdinur Sheikh Mohamed Issaq, the Puntland Minister of Interior and Democratization, said that the resignations would not affect local polls.
Puntland is scheduled to hold elections for parliamentary seats soon.
TPEC has already gone ahead to elect a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman to replace Salah and Farah respectively.
Issaq thanked the immediate former Chairman and Deputy Chairman for the incredible role they played as part of TPEC.
He also extended his gratitude to Salah and Farah for ensuring that Puntland holds one-person-one-vote polls.
