BRASÍLIA – The non-resident Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Federative Republic of Brazil, Dr. Omar Dufle, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to Brazil, officially marking the commencement of his diplomatic mission in the country.
Somalia was among 14 countries whose ambassadors presented their credentials to President Lula during the ceremony, which highlighted Brazil’s commitment to strengthening dialogue, international cooperation, and partnerships built on mutual respect and shared interests.
Brazil has previously expressed willingness to assist Somalia in revitalising its livestock industry, with Somali officials holding discussions with Brazilian counterparts on opportunities for collaboration in the agricultural sector.
Expanding Bilateral Cooperation
The presentation of credentials marks a significant step in strengthening relations between Somalia and Brazil, opening new opportunities for political dialogue, development cooperation, trade, education, agriculture, and broader South-South cooperation.
Somalia has been expanding its diplomatic footprint in recent years, with non-resident ambassadors being accredited to multiple countries as part of efforts to maximise diplomatic resources and forge stronger international alliances.
A Growing Diplomatic Presence
Somalia has been strengthening its bilateral ties with countries across the globe through the accreditation of non-resident ambassadors. In February 2026, the Somali Ambassador to Germany and Poland was accredited as non-resident ambassador to Hungary, while other envoys have been accredited to Tunisia, Belarus, and Mauritania in recent months.
Way Forward
The accreditation of Ambassador Dufle is expected to facilitate closer cooperation between Somalia and Brazil in areas of mutual interest. As Somalia continues to rebuild its economy and strengthen its international partnerships, engagement with major Latin American economies such as Brazil is seen as an important component of the country’s foreign policy strategy.
