Regional Leaders Unite Ahead of Key Talks with Mogadishu

Nairobi, Kenya – In a strategic meeting held on Sunday in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe convened to harmonize their positions ahead of anticipated negotiations with the Federal Government of Somalia.

According to officials close to the talks, the two regional leaders focused on developing “a coordinated approach” to pending national discussions involving the 2026 electoral model and proposed constitutional reforms. Their goal, sources said, is to “present a united front” as Somalia navigates critical decisions over power-sharing and governance structures.

The consultations come as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is reportedly preparing for a visit to Kismayo, Jubbaland’s capital, where he is expected to push for dialogue aimed at “ending prolonged political disputes” between federal and state administrations.

While no formal communique was issued, insiders suggest that both Deni and Madobe intend to advocate for a more inclusive and consultative process in shaping Somalia’s future political roadmap.

The Nairobi meeting underscores renewed maneuvering among Somalia’s federal member states as they seek to influence the direction of national reforms and ensure regional interests are safeguarded in forthcoming negotiations.
