Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has formed a committee to investigate the recent coup attempt by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo.
On Sunday, December 26, Farmaajo announced Roble’s suspension as the Prime Minister.
Roble would later describe the suspension as a “failed coup attempt.”
Somalia’s constitution does not grant Farmaajo any powers to sack the Prime Minister.
That power rests solely in the hands of the federal parliament.
On January 1, Prime Minister Roble announced the formation of a five-member committee to investigate President Farmaajo’s actions.
Currently, Prime Minister Roble and President Farmaajo carry opposing views on the ongoing parliamentary elections.
Farmaajo believes that Roble has failed to hold credible elections.
The President wants the elections halted.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Roble insists that the elections must proceed, and has called for a National Consultative Council (NCC) Conference to discuss the polls.
The Minister of Defense is to lead the five-member committee.
