US Delegation Touches Down in Kismayo Ahead of Opposition Meeting

Kismayo, Jubbaland – Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe welcomed US Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, and his delegation in Kismayo, prior to a key opposition conference set for this month in the city.

President Madobe and Amb. Riley addressed security concerns, the broader political landscape in Somalia, advancements in state-building, and US backing for development initiatives.

A Jubbaland presidency statement indicated, “Jubbaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe hosted US Ambassador to Somalia Richard H. Riley and his delegation during their official visit to Jubbaland.”

“The session, joined by the Ministers of Interior and Planning & International Relations, featured detailed talks on enhancing bilateral ties, especially security cooperation, US aid for development efforts, the national political context, and Somalia’s state-building advancements,” the statement continued.

Kismayo will host a conference on December 10 organized by the Somali Future Council, involving Puntland, Jubbaland, and the Alliance of Political Parties. The event aims to settle the council’s framework and address choices on Somalia’s transitional politics, as per their Nairobi declaration from last October.
