Seven Deaths Reported as Cholera Worsens in Somalia

On Sunday, the United Nations reported that seven Somalis died as cholera spread all over the country.

Over 700 cases have been reported following news that the country faces a serious outbreak of cholera.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) says the worst hit areas are Central Hiran and Southeastern Banadir regions.

The Deyr rains, which flooded Somalia over three months ago, are responsible for the cholera pandemic that is causing panic all over the nation.

“Acute water diarrhea and cholera cases continue soaring three months after the Deyr rains ended in the country,” tweeted the UN agency.

UNOCHA also states that children aged under five years and women are the most vulnerable groups. The agency says the next rainfall season could see an upsurge in AWT/cholera cases.
