Sheikh Abdirahman Mohamed Abdale has blamed the destruction of the fabric of society in Somaliland on the increased incidences of drug abuse around the country.
Sheikh Abdale, who once served as the Chairman of the Commission for Promotion of Good Deeds and Deterrence to Vices, said drug abuse is a non-Islamic habit that must stop.
He called on the government to step in to solve the problem before it worsens.
“Youth in Somaliland have been picking up and embracing foreign norms. Drug abuse is one such norm for which an effective solution is required,” Sheikh Abdale said.
Further, Sheikh Abdale stated that the government is aware of the problem going by the number of people arrested for being in possession of and trading in Cannabis Sativa.
Additionally, Sheikh Abdale said the government’s habit of announcing the number of young citizens arrested for being in possession of marijuana has not helped.
Instead, he advocated for the rehabilitation of the youths using Islamic tenets.
Otherwise, he reinforced his belief that the country’s moral fabric would be destroyed as more youths continue abusing drugs.
