Shouts of Rigging Rock Ongoing Somalia Parliamentary Elections

Shouts of rigging continue to rock the ongoing parliamentary elections in the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Delegates selected by clan elders, federal electoral body, and local electoral agencies are responsible for electing House of the People (Lower House) lawmakers.

Last week, Mohamed Jawari – a former Speaker of the federal Lower House – claimed that plans were afoot to rig him out.

He subsequently lost his seat.

The Federal Election Implementation Team (FEIT) had ordered a delay in the election for the seat that Jawari was defending.

However, the committee managing Southwest’s parliamentary polls defied that order.

The Council of Presidential Candidates (CPC), which brings together opposition politicians, issued a statement claiming that the ongoing polls are full of fraud.

They claim that many of the delegates are civil servants and members of the country’s armed forces, which casts doubts on their impartiality.
